Built between 1967 and 1975, it shares the same Nikon F-mount lens system and the same Copal Square metal shutter, but in a slightly more compact and accessible body aimed at the serious amateur rather than the professional. The centre-weighted TTL metering with its match-needle display in the viewfinder is reliable and accurate, and the fully mechanical shutter means the camera works perfectly without any battery at all. One of its more unusual characteristics is the shutter speed ring, which sits concentric with the lens mount rather than on the top plate, keeping both aperture and shutter controls together on the same side of the camera. The 50mm f/1.4 Nikkor is a superb lens, fast, sharp, and beautiful in low light.

Specs

Type: Fully mechanical SLR with TTL centre-weighted match-needle metering

Maximum shutter speed: 1/1000s

Lens: Nikon F-mount, 50mm f/1.4 Nikkor

Modes: Full manual only, match-needle metering display in viewfinder

Battery: No battery required, the camera is fully mechanical.
