The Nikkormat FTN is a fully mechanical camera. This means it does not require batteries to operate the shutter. The battery is only used the power the camera’s light meter.
It uses Nikon F-mount lenses.
The Nikkormat (Nikomat in Japan) series was Nikon's semi-professional camera line of the 60s. The Nikkormat FT line was extemely popular in its day. It has many specs and features found in professional cameras, but it was an affordable option for the serious consumer. It has a sturdy all-metal construction and even features mirror lock-up, which was extremely rare for consumer cameras back then.
The FTN is a slight upgrade from the classic Nikkormat FT. The metering was improved and the lens coupling made easier.
This particular kit is paired with the sweet, sweet Nikkor-H 28mm f3.5, a lens we love for landscape photography.
Due to the age of this camera and the nature of old light meters we can’t guarantee that the light meter still works. This isn’t an issue as the camera will function perfectly without batteries. To meter a scene before taking a picture we recommend using an external light-meter or a light-meter app on your phone. Alternatively you can use the foolproof sunny-16 rule.
