The 38-76mm zoom covers the most useful everyday focal lengths: wide enough for groups and indoor shots, long enough for portraits and picking out details from a distance. Six flash modes including a night mode and a multi mode give you more creative control than most cameras in this class, and the shutter goes down to 2 seconds, which means it handles low-light situations better than a basic point and shoot. It is a bulkier camera, which some people find a bit much for a pocket, but it sits well in a bag and feels solid in hand. A reliable, capable everyday zoom.
