The 35mm wide end is a touch wider than the 38mm you find on most zoom compacts of this era, which makes a genuine difference for interiors and group shots. The 8-element lens is well specified, infrared autofocus is reliable, and the shutter goes down to 1/5s in auto with an unlimited bulb mode for as long as you hold the button. Beyond the basics, there is multi-exposure, interval shooting set to every 3 or 60 minutes, multiple self-timer modes including an auto tele-wide option, infinity lock, and backlight compensation. It is a lot for a camera this size and price. At 235g it is also very light for everything it offers.
