The P30N gives you a solid set of shooting modes in a lightweight, well-priced body. It was released in 1988 as the updated version of the P30, and the key improvement over the original was the addition of aperture priority mode, which makes it much more versatile alongside programme auto and full manual. The Pentax K-mount is one of the great lens ecosystems in film photography: it has been largely unchanged for decades, which means you have access to a wide range of affordable SMC Pentax primes and zooms. The 35-80mm lens that comes with this camera covers a useful everyday range from moderate wide angle to short telephoto. The viewfinder is bright and clear with a split-image focusing aid, and the LED scale on the left shows selected shutter speeds at a glance. One thing to note: the camera reads ISO from the DX code on the film cartridge and cannot be set manually, so it is best paired with DX-coded film.
