What makes the Revue 500AF interesting is what it is under the badge: a rebadged Mamiya U AutoFocus, sold by German retailer Foto-Quelle in the early 1980s. Mamiya built very good glass, and the f/2.8 lens on this camera is genuinely fast for a point and shoot of its era, making it more capable in low light than most compacts. The infrared autofocus works well, and the zone focus icons in the viewfinder let you take quick manual control when you need it. It has a pop-up flash, a self-timer, and runs on two standard AAA batteries. It is a rare and unusual camera with some charm, well suited to anyone who enjoys using something a little out of the ordinary. One thing to note: the plastic construction is lightweight but fragile on these cameras, so the shutter button cover in particular should be handled with care.
