Description
We have a lot of time for the Canon A-1. It sits at the top of Canon's classic A-series lineup, above the better-known AE-1 and AE-1 Program, and it shows in the build and the feature set. The A-1 was the first SLR to offer a full programmed AE mode alongside shutter priority, aperture priority, and full manual, which made it unusually versatile for its time and still makes it a pleasure to use today. The LED display in the viewfinder shows both shutter speed and aperture simultaneously, so you always know exactly what the camera is doing. The all-black body is well built with metal internals, and the Canon FD mount opens up access to one of the finest lens systems of the film era. The 28mm f/2.8 FD lens is a lovely wide-angle option, great for street photography, architecture, interiors, and travel where you want more of the scene in the frame. A genuinely capable camera that rewards learning.
