We like the QL25 for being a compact, well-made rangefinder that is often overlooked in favour of its faster siblings but deserves far more attention. Launched in 1965 as part of Canon's Canonet QL range, it shares the same solid build and QL quick-loading system as the more famous QL17. The 45mm f2.5 Canon lens is a sharp 5-element design that produces clean, characterful images, and the Copal leaf shutter fires at all speeds without any battery at all. The CdS meter enables shutter priority auto exposure when a battery is fitted, and full manual override is available without one. The coupled rangefinder is bright and the large viewfinder is a genuine pleasure to use.

Due to the age of this camera and the nature of old light meters we can’t guarantee that the light meter still works. This isn’t an issue as the camera will function perfectly without batteries. To meter a scene before taking a picture we recommend using an external light meter or for you to take our online course that will teach you how to use a film camera without the use of any external tools.
