The FTb QL is one of Canon’s most capable and dependable fully mechanical SLRs. Released in 1971 alongside the professional F-1, it shares much of the same build quality and the same Canon FD mount, so it is a serious camera at a very friendly price today. The all-metal body is solid and well made, the fully mechanical shutter fires without any battery, and features like mirror lockup, multiple exposure and Canon’s QL quick loading system show how carefully it was designed. Everything is manual, so it is a great camera for learning how exposure works. The 50mm f1.8 Canon FD lens is a sharp, fast standard lens that is great for portraits, street and everyday shots.
