The 38-76mm Canon zoom is built from 7 elements in 7 groups, which is a construction more commonly seen on higher-end compacts and makes a real difference to sharpness and contrast across the zoom range. Released in 1992, it was also sold as the Sure Shot Zoom Max in the US and Autoboy A in Japan, and it was priced as a premium compact at the time. The 3-point Smart AiAF autofocus with 161 focusing steps is notably accurate, keeping subjects sharp even when they're not perfectly centred. There's a close-up mode for subjects as near as 45cm, a built-in flash with red-eye reduction, and the zoom viewfinder adjusts as you zoom the lens. Film loads, advances, and rewinds automatically. A very capable early 90s compact with optics that genuinely stand out.
