The STX-1 is full of simplicity and honesty. Fuji built this camera in 1979 as an entry-level SLR, but the fundamentals are all right: a fully mechanical shutter that works at every speed without a battery, a bright viewfinder with shutter speed readout on the left, a match-needle TTL meter on the right, and a depth-of-field preview button on the front of the body. The 55mm f/2.2 Fujinon lens is the standard kit pairing for this camera and produces sharp, natural results. Because everything is manual, the STX-1 is a great camera for learning how shutter speed and aperture work together, and because the shutter is fully mechanical you never have to worry about the camera becoming unusable if the batteries run low. A solid, uncomplicated camera that rewards a bit of patience.

To meter a scene before taking a picture we recommend using an external light meter or for you to take our online course that will teach you how to use a film camera without the use of any external tools.
