The LC-A is the camera that started the Lomography movement. Introduced in 1984 in Leningrad and based on the Japanese Cosina CX-2, it was originally a Soviet state-issued compact, virtually unknown outside the USSR until a group of Viennese students discovered it in the early 1990s and turned it into a worldwide phenomenon. The Minitar-1 32mm f2.8 lens produces images with a distinctive character: sharp and contrasty in the centre, with pronounced vignetting at the corners and vivid, saturated colours that are unlike anything else in 35mm photography. The fully automatic CdS metering selects both shutter speed and aperture in auto mode, with a shutter range from 2 seconds down to 1/500s that handles everything from bright daylight to long low-light exposures. Zone focus via four settings covers portrait through to infinity, and a hot shoe accepts an external flash. Film is advanced and rewound manually. A camera with real history, a genuine personality, and results you will not get from anything else.
