The lens uses two double-sided aspherical elements, which help keep sharpness and distortion in check across the full range. Flash modes cover the usual bases, including auto, fill, red-eye reduction, and night portrait, and there is also an exposure compensation of +1.5 EV for tricky backlit situations.
