The TW2 takes an unusual approach to the dual focal length camera: rather than a zoom lens, it has two completely separate fixed prime lenses in a single compact body, a 35mm f/3.5 and a 70mm f/6.8. You switch between them with a button and the viewfinder automatically adjusts magnification to match. Prime lenses in a point and shoot produce sharper, more characterful results than zoom optics of the same era, and both lenses here are Nikkor designs with well-regarded optical quality. The 35mm wide lens is 4 elements in 3 groups, natural and unforced for everyday scenes and group shots, while the 70mm telephoto is an 8-element design well suited to portraits and pulling in distant subjects. At launch the TW2 was the thinnest dual-lens autofocus camera available, and at 310g it carries easily. Fully automatic and simple to operate.
