We like the L-20 for being exactly what it sets out to be: an uncomplicated, durable, and very easy camera that anyone can pick up and use immediately. Released in 1989 and designed for markets where simplicity and practicality mattered most, it has a solid feel that belies its modest specification. The 35mm Ricoh lens is fixed focus with a useful infinity setting via a small lever below the lens, the built-in flash is activated by a satisfying sliding switch, and a low-light LED in the viewfinder tells you when flash is needed. Film loads, advances, and rewinds automatically, and the camera accepts common AA batteries which means you will never be stuck without power. There are no modes to navigate, no menus, no decisions beyond pointing and pressing the shutter. A genuinely honest everyday camera.
