The FX-3 Super 2000 has earned a devoted following for one simple reason: it gets out of the way and lets you shoot. Introduced in 1986 and produced until 2002, it's a fully mechanical SLR with a metal focal-plane shutter that reaches 1/2000s and runs without any battery at all. Batteries power only the light meter, a trio of LEDs in the viewfinder that show over, correct, and under exposure at a glance. The Contax/Yashica C/Y mount is one of the great advantages of this camera, giving access to an excellent range of Yashica ML lenses as well as the legendary Carl Zeiss T* lenses made for the Contax system. The self-timer includes a mirror lock-up function, useful for minimising vibration on a tripod. The 55mm f/2 ML lens is a sharp and capable standard lens, well suited to portraits, everyday photography, and low-light shooting.
