The Microtec Zoom 70 has a lot going for it in a small package. Released in 1995, it was one of Yashica's more capable compact zooms of the era, and it was praised at launch for its optical performance, with the 8-element Yashinon lens producing sharp, consistent results across the zoom range. Starting at 35mm rather than the more common 38mm is a small but welcome advantage, giving you just that little bit more width when you need it. At 70mm, the tele end is well-suited to portraits with pleasing perspective compression. The camera is light, well-balanced, and easy to operate with one hand, and the flash cycles through a useful set of modes, including auto, red-eye reduction, fill, and off. A compact, dependable everyday camera that is easy to carry and straightforward to use.
