The Zenit-E is a fully mechanical camera. This means it does not require batteries to operate the shutter. The battery is only used the power the camera’s light meter.
It uses M-42 lenses.
The Zenit might be the most iconic Soviet SLR. So of course we had to pair it with a Helios 44-2 lens! The Zenit is built like a tank and all-mechanical. The Helios lens is famous for it's beautiful, swirly bokeh. Name a more iconic duo?
Due to the age of this camera and the nature of old light meters we can’t guarantee that the light meter still works. This isn’t an issue as the camera will function perfectly without batteries. To meter a scene before taking a picture we recommend using an external light-meter or a light-meter app on your phone. Alternatively you can use the foolproof sunny-16 rule.
