Description:

The 45mm Planar is the lens most people start with in the Contax G system, and for good reason. It sits at a focal length close enough to how the eye sees that it feels natural in almost any situation, portraits, street, travel, everyday life. The f/2 aperture gives you genuine low-light capability and enough background separation to make subjects stand out cleanly. Optically it’s considered one of the finest 45mm lenses ever made for 35mm photography, with sharpness that holds up well wide open and colour rendering that’s rich and accurate without looking artificial. If there’s one lens to pair with a G1 or G2, this is the one most photographers reach for first. Autofocus is driven by the camera body, as with all G-mount lenses.

For everyday use, I usually recommend Kodak Gold 200 or Kodak Ultramax 400 as both are super versatile, offer beautiful, rich colours, and are quite forgiving.

If you’re looking for black-and-white film, Ilford XP2 400 is a great option for ease of use and rich exposure latitude. Alternatively, Foma 100 is also great and will give you a bit more contrast and a grainier look.
