Description

The Spotmatic SP is one of the cameras that quietly defined what a 35mm SLR could be, and it still makes a compelling choice today. When it was introduced in 1964 it was one of the first SLRs to offer through-the-lens metering, which was a genuine leap forward for exposure accuracy. The fully mechanical shutter runs without any battery at all, the build is all metal and built to last, and the M42 screw mount opens up access to one of the largest and most affordable pools of vintage lenses available for any film system. The 55mm f/1.8 Super-Takumar is one of the finest standard lenses of its era, sharp, smooth in its rendering, and with a warm, slightly golden quality that many photographers actively seek out. The stopped-down metering system, where you activate the meter by pressing a lever that closes the aperture, is different from modern cameras but becomes second nature very quickly. A rewarding camera for anyone who wants to slow down and shoot deliberately.

Due to the age of this camera and the nature of old light meters we can't guarantee that the light meter still works. This isn't an issue as the camera will function perfectly without batteries. To meter a scene before taking a picture we recommend using an external light-meter or for you to take our online course that will teach you how to use a film camera without the use of any external tools.
