In programme mode the camera sets both shutter speed and aperture for you, shutter priority lets you choose the speed while the camera handles the rest, and full manual gives you complete creative control. All three are genuinely useful depending on what you're shooting. The Canon FD mount gives access to a wide range of affordable and excellent lenses, and the 50mm f1.8 included here is one of the sharpest and most satisfying standard lenses ever made at this price point. Light, capable, and enormously practical, it is a brilliant first SLR and a camera experienced photographers return to for its simplicity and reliability.
