The EOS 1000F was Canon's most compact EOS SLR with a built-in flash when it was released, and it remains one of the most accessible entry points into the Canon EF lens system. At just 500g with battery it's light enough to carry all day, and the full range of exposure modes, programme auto, shutter priority, aperture priority, full manual, and depth-of-field AE, means it grows with you as your photography develops. The AI Focus autofocus switches automatically between One-Shot for static subjects and AI Servo for moving ones, which is a thoughtful feature at this level. The built-in flash retracts manually and uses off-film TTL metering for accurate exposures. The EF mount is the most important asset here: it gives you access to the entire Canon EF lens range past and present, from affordable secondhand primes to L-series glass. The 28-80mm zoom covers a versatile everyday range from wide group shots to short telephoto portraits.
