The EOS 5000 is a compact and accessible entry into the Canon EOS system, released in 1995 for the European market. The Canon EF mount is the real draw: it gives you access to the full range of Canon EF lenses, from affordable secondhand glass all the way up to L-series optics, all with autofocus and electronic aperture control. The camera has a distinctive large mode and shutter speed dial on the top plate rather than the usual mode dial, which makes switching between settings quick and tactile. The 3-point autofocus with 6-zone evaluative metering handles everyday subjects reliably, the built-in pop-up flash covers up to 12m at ISO 100, and continuous shooting at 1fps keeps up with most situations.
