The FTb QL is one of Canon's most capable and dependable fully mechanical SLRs. Released in 1971 alongside the professional F-1, it shares much of the same build quality and the same Canon FD mount, making it a serious camera at a very accessible price today. The all-metal body is solid and well made, the fully mechanical shutter fires without any battery, and practical features like mirror lockup, multiple exposure, and Canon's QL quick film loading system show how thoughtfully it was designed. The match-needle metering in the viewfinder is clear and easy to read. Paired with the 28mm f2.8 Canon FD lens, a compact wide angle well suited to street photography, travel, and environmental portraits, it is a very capable and satisfying combination.
