The Auto 4001 has one feature that sets it apart from most zoom compacts: auto composition zoom. Rather than leaving the zoom entirely in your hands, the camera can automatically adjust the focal length based on what it sees in the frame, nudging the composition towards a more balanced result. It's an unusual and genuinely interesting feature that also appeared on the Minolta Riva Zoom 105i. You can switch it off and use the zoom manually whenever you prefer. The 35-70mm range covers everyday shooting well, from wide group shots to comfortable portraits, autofocus handles distance automatically, and the built-in flash with fill-in and flash-off modes covers most lighting situations. Fully automatic and straightforward to use, with DX coding reading films from ISO 100 to 3200.
