The 21mm Biogon is the ultra-wide option in the Contax G lineup, and one of the more sought-after lenses in the system. At 21mm, it’s the lens you reach for when you want to put a lot of the world in the frame, whether that’s architecture, tight interiors, open landscapes, or street scenes where you’re shooting close and want context around your subject. Despite the extreme angle of view, distortion is kept very low, which is a real achievement for this focal length and makes the lens much more versatile than most ultra-wides. It’s compact for what it does, and the T* coating gives it strong contrast and colour in all conditions. This example comes with the original Contax GVF-21 external viewfinder, which is required for use as the built-in viewfinder on the G1 and G2 does not cover the 21mm field of view. Compatible with the G2 and green-label G1 bodies only.

For everyday use, I usually recommend Kodak Gold 200 or Kodak Ultramax 400 as both are super versatile, offer beautiful, rich colours, and are quite forgiving.

If you’re looking for black-and-white film, Ilford XP2 400 is a great option for ease of use and rich exposure latitude. Alternatively, Foma 100 is also great and will give you a bit more contrast and a grainier look.
