The Z-up 80 is a late 1980s Konica that takes the point and shoot format further than most cameras of its era dared to. The 40-80mm f/3.8 lens is fast for a zoom compact of this vintage, and the 63-step infrared autofocus system is unusually precise. The camera is notably chunky and feels more like a small camera-shaped object than a typical slim compact, with the 2CR5 battery housed inside the grip, but that size brings some genuinely useful features. Continuous shooting at 2fps, multiple exposure mode, a timed exposure function up to 99 hours, interval timer, +1.5EV backlight compensation, and a diopter correction on the viewfinder are all things you simply would not find on competing cameras at the time. The swing-up flash zooms with the lens. A characterful and capable camera for anyone who appreciates an unusual late-80s design with a strong feature set.
