We like the Hi-Matic C for being a compact, simple, and characterful camera from 1969. Minolta stripped the Hi-Matic line back to its essentials with the C, dropping the rangefinder in favour of a lighter, more pocketable body with a collapsible 40mm f2.7 Rokkor lens that tucks flush when not in use. Operation is straightforward: choose between the sun (1/250s) or cloud (1/30s) shutter speed icon, set your film speed, and the CdS meter sets the aperture automatically. Three zone focus symbols in the viewfinder guide focusing without needing a rangefinder patch. No flash is built in but a hot shoe and PC socket are there for an external unit. A compact, honest, and enjoyable camera for everyday film shooting.
