Built for professional use and released in 1996, it was Nikon's answer to everything a working photographer could ask of a camera: a 1005-pixel RGB 3D matrix metering system that reads colour as well as light, 5-zone phase detection autofocus that is still impressively quick and accurate by any standard, a titanium shutter that runs to 1/8000s, and a built-in motor drive capable of 8 frames per second. The 100 percent viewfinder coverage means what you see is exactly what you get on film. Being body only, it pairs with any Nikon F-mount lens, and the compatibility is broad, from manual AI lenses through to AF-D and AF-S.
