We like the Lite Touch Zoom 130ED for the optical quality Nikon put into what is a genuinely tiny camera. The 38-130mm lens uses ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass and two aspherical elements, a combination that reduces chromatic aberration and produces notably sharp, clear images across the full zoom range, well above what you'd expect from a compact in this category. When it was released in 2002, Nikon claimed it was the world's smallest and lightest 35mm compact with a 3.4x zoom and sliding lens cover, and it still feels remarkably slim and light today. The sliding cover protects the lens when the camera is off, multi-area passive autofocus is accurate and fast, and a pop-up flash with five modes handles most lighting situations well.
