The XA is one of the most brilliant camera designs of its era. Introduced in 1978, it was the world's first clamshell compact camera, a concept that countless manufacturers later copied. Sliding the clamshell cover open turns the camera on instantly and protects the lens when closed, all in a body that genuinely fits in a shirt pocket. Unlike the simpler XA2, this original model has a proper coupled rangefinder for precise focusing and a fast 35mm f2.8 F.Zuiko lens of 6 elements in 5 groups, sharp and well-corrected across the frame. Aperture priority exposure handles the shutter speed automatically, with a needle visible in the viewfinder. This example comes with the original Olympus A11 Electronic Flash unit, which clips neatly to the side. A genuinely exceptional camera.
