Description:

The K1000 has one of the most honest reputations in all of film photography. Produced from 1976 to 1997, for over two decades it was the camera recommended by photography teachers, universities, and film schools around the world precisely because it strips everything back to what matters. There are no automatic modes, no electronics in the shutter, no unnecessary controls. You set the aperture, the shutter speed, and focus, and the needle in the viewfinder tells you whether the exposure is correct. That's it. The fully mechanical shutter fires reliably with or without a battery, and the Pentax K mount gives access to a large catalogue of lenses that covers everything from wide angles to long telephoto. The 50mm f2 SMC Pentax lens included here is sharp, compact, and produces images with a clean, natural rendering. Few cameras teach you to understand light and exposure as directly as this one, and few cameras are as satisfying to use once you do.

Due to the age of this camera and the nature of old light meters we can't guarantee that the light meter still works. This isn't an issue as the camera will function perfectly without batteries. To meter a scene before taking a picture we recommend using an external light-meter or for you to take our online course that will teach you how to use a film camera without the use of any external tools.
