The Ricoh 35 FM is a compact and discreet camera built around one of the better lenses you'll find at this price point. The 40mm f/2.8 Rikenon is sharp, well-corrected, and the same optical formula used in Ricoh's more advanced rangefinder models of the same era. The camera itself is as simple as it gets: zone focusing with three distance symbols, automatic exposure via a CdS meter, and a fixed 1/125s shutter speed. There are no dials to set and no decisions to make beyond framing and choosing your focus zone. That simplicity makes it a relaxed, low-maintenance camera for everyday use, street photography, and travel, particularly if you pair it with ISO 400 film for flexibility in changing light.
