Description:
The Hasselblad SWC/M (Super Wide Camera) is a unique and specialized medium format camera. It's a fully mechanical camera, requiring no batteries to operate.
The standout feature of the SWC/M is its incredible Carl Zeiss 38mm f/4.5 Biogon lens. This lens is permanently attached to the camera body and provides an ultra-wide field of view, equivalent to a 21mm lens on 35mm format. Known for its exceptional sharpness and minimal distortion, this lens is the reason the SWC is so highly sought after by photographers and collectors alike.
The SWC/M is designed for precision and simplicity. It features a leaf shutter built into the lens, offering speeds from 1/500th to 1 second. Unlike traditional Hasselblad V-series cameras, the SWC/M does not have a mirror or focusing screen. Instead, focus is achieved by estimating distance and using the focus scale on the lens. This design allows for an incredibly compact body given the medium format and ultra-wide lens.
This particular model comes with a dedicated optical viewfinder that mounts on top, providing an approximate view of what the lens sees. It also comes with a focusing screen back. This invaluable tool attaches to the camera in place of the film back, allowing you to view the exact image projected by the lens onto a ground glass screen. Once composition and focus are set using the screen, you simply swap it out for your film back and take the shot.
Like other Hasselblad medium format cameras, the SWC/M accepts interchangeable film backs, allowing you to switch film types mid-roll or pre-load multiple backs for quick changes in the field.
